Business Casual socks were designed by Tanis Lavallee for her father, so it seemed like an appropriate pattern to choose for my dad's birthday present. The pattern is written for fingering weight sock yarn, but as I'm not a big fan of sock knitting I figured that DK weight yarn would get it over with faster. I had some lovely gray shade of Novita Nalle in my stash, so I decided to go with that. This yarn comes with a basic sock pattern and it turned out that men's large size has the same number of stitches as the small size in Business Casual. No need for math there, that is, I simply started knitting with size small instructions.

The pattern is easy to memorise, maybe even too easy. For me it meant that after the first repeat I didn't bother to check the pattern anymore - I had the basic sock pattern with the yarn so I simply went with that. Therefore, the heel is not what the original Business Casuals have. I did want to make an enforced heel anyway.


Of course, I ran out of yarn as I had no idea how much yarn I would need. That halted my project enough to go pass my dad's birthday. After gathering enough strength to dive into my stash again, I did find another skein of the gray yarn. I figured it might be from a different dye lot, but as I didn't have to switch skeins in the middle of a sock, but each is made from one skein, you can't really tell.


In the end, I finished the socks two weeks after the B-day (there was some tour-de-socking going on at the same time...). The socks fit perfectly, though, and dad is happy with them. Turned into a winning project after all!
